Medical Structural Biology – Faculty of Medicine

Lund University
Lund

Description

Medical Structural Biology is part of the Faculty of Medicine under the Department of Experimental Medical Science at Lund University. We combine structural biology techniques, such as X-ray crystallography, with microscopy to research mechanisms of action in the metabolic systems in the human body. Research topics include the role of bacterial toxins (superantigens) in the immune system, the specificity of certain channels facilitating the transport of glucose and glycerol, how an altered microbiota can contribute to development of insulin resistant, the connection to metabolic disorders, type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance and glucose intolerance.

Contact person Karin Lindkvist is research team manager and professor at Medical Structural Biology, researcher at EXODIAB: Excellence of Diabetes Research in Sweden, and principal investigator at LUCC: Lund University Cancer Centre.
